We had the same issue on a 2-node 10.2.0.4 RAC (HP-UX).
2 error 481 instance crashes and GRD freezes due to DRM operations.
The biggest one recorded, lasted 48 minutes.
In our case, the object being remastered was not always the same and not relevant to its size.
For instance, the 48 minute freeze was caused by a DRM on a 800mb table, and the database contains tables in the scale of Terabytes (12 TB total db size).
Since, the local Oracle branch and Metalink had not suggested any patches, we decided to disable DRM and, since then,
these issues have not reappeared.

Hello Steve,

i don´t think that this bug exists on other platforms. However, if you are experiencing this issue on other platforms, don´t hesitate to contact Oracle support and refer them to this bug and ask for clarification.

Best Regards,
Martin

Martin,
I know, thanks but I am installing the patch on $CRS_HOME then installing the Clusterware on the same home, till now I am not installing RDBMS, but I think I have resolved the Issue,
I had to "# unset ORACLE_HOME" first.
after that OUI will till you cannot install on non-empty, ignore this and replace the existing directory.

- Regarding 10.2.0.4 patchset I had no lock, the OUI exits always even after using the patch and "jreLoc" option.

Omar,

please be aware that Oracle Clusterware has to be installed as a seperate Oracle Home and can not be installed into an RDBMS Oracle Home.

Regards,
Martin

Hi -
I got this error when installing the CRS into the same home as when installing the Patch, did I miss something or what
Checking for Oracle Home incompatibilities ....
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
Problem: Oracle Clusterware cannot be installed into an existing Oracle Home.
Recommendation: Choose a new Oracle Home for installing this software.

Sandro,

thank you for participating and pointing out how to determine the current bit-platform of the running instance or binaries. It may well be that on a Linux x86-64 system, Oracle 32bit binaries have been installed, although that is not supported by Oracle.

Regards,
Martin
